At Optima Care Group, our approach to dementia care starts with a simple principle: a person is much more than their diagnosis.
Every person brings with them a lifetime of relationships, experiences, routines, preferences and memories that continue to shape who they are.
Our starting point is therefore not simply a person's diagnosis or care needs. It is the person themselves.
We take time to understand who someone is, the life they have lived, the people who matter to them and how they would like to live today. From there, our teams work alongside residents and their families to provide individualised care that supports comfort, choice, dignity and quality of life.

These are not simply values displayed on a wall. They provide a framework for how we think about dementia care, how we understand the people living within our homes, how we develop our teams and how we continually assess and improve the services we provide.
Importantly, our Foundations also shape our education and training.
Our dementia education and development programmes are written internally by our Dementia Care Consultant and built around the realities of supporting people living with dementia within our services. This allows learning to connect directly with everyday practice rather than relying solely on generic training packages.
Through education, observation, reflection and ongoing assessment within our services, we continually ask an important question:
What can we learn, change or develop to improve the experience of the people we support?
Family
Care is built around relationships.
Moving into a care home can be a significant change, not only for the person moving but for the people closest to them.
We want families and friends to remain part of people's lives. Their knowledge, relationships and shared experiences can help us understand the person we are caring for, particularly when someone's ability to communicate their needs is changing.
That relationship begins before someone moves into one of our homes.
We listen to what matters to the person and those close to them, learn about their routines, preferences, relationships and life history, and talk openly about what good care should look like for them.
Once someone joins us, that conversation continues. Families are welcomed into the life of our homes and encouraged to remain involved in the ways that are right for them and their relative.
Our role isn't to replace important relationships. It is to support them.
Our education programmes reinforce this approach by helping our teams understand the importance of family knowledge, communication and partnership.
Families often hold knowledge that cannot be found in a care plan - the small details, experiences, relationships and shared history that help us understand who somebody is.
Safety is at the heart of everything we do.
Families need confidence that their loved ones are protected, supported and cared for every day. We have robust measures in place to help residents live safely while maintaining their independence.
Our highly trained care professionals provide expert support with a warm and personal approach, ensuring every resident feels cared for, respected, and at home.
Our assistive technology monitors interventions to ensure a responsive service.

Clarissa joined Primley Court Nursing Home in 2015 as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Her wealth of clinical and managerial experience has contributed to Primley Court becoming a Care Home of distinction.

Alison Homer
Alison joined the Primley Court team in 2015, having worked in the care sector since she was 16, attaining the qualification of Registered Nurse and for twelve years worked as a Registered Care Home Manager.
